Arkotong Longkumer is Lecturer in Religious Studies at the University of Edinburgh. His research and teaching interests lie in the intersection between indigenous religions, Hinduism and local Christianities in South and Southeast Asia. I am also interested in theory and method in the study of religions, and its interface between the different disciplines of religious studies, anthropology, and history.
We talk a lot about the World Relgions Paradigm at the Religious Studies Project, and this discussion looks more closely at one of the ancillary categories, Indigenous Religion. What exactly does this term refer to? Does it refer to specific religions (plural) or a kind of religion (singular)?
