Kathleen McPhillips is a sociologist of religion, gender and trauma at the University of Newcastle, Australia. She has written and published extensively in the field of gender-based violence and institutional child sexual abuse. Her work considers the social and gender impacts of institutional violence in religious organisations and particularly the Catholic Church. Kathleen attended the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and has held numerous grants and published most recently in the journals Child Abuse and Neglect, History and Health and Religions. She is currently working on a podcast project with survivors of institutional abuse in religious organisations.
